Prompt #20 Should SIS have uniforms or not?

I do not think that SIS should have uniforms.  I am not a big fan of uniforms and I hope that uniforms do not happen in our school.  Uniforms are said to bring unity among the students and show school spirit.  I don’t think that this does not actually have anything to do with either school pride or unity.  I think it is kind of a nuisance and I know for sure that there are a lot of students in SIS that would rather to not have a uniform for school.

I don’t like uniforms mainly because I think they are ugly.  It looks ugly and is probably made of poor material.  I also don’t like to wear skirts.  I haven’t worn a skirt since like 5th grade and don’t plan on ever wearing one anytime soon.  Uniforms were made to show a student’s pride for their school.  Honestly, I think a uniform kinda lessens a students pride for their school.  Many students might not like wearing the uniform and might want to rebel like messing with the uniforms and changing it to their kind of style.  If a school wants to show pride, I think it would be better if the students all wear the school colors, like for my school it is blue and green.  Having students wear their schools’ colors, it would show more pride than compared to just having students wear the uniform.  Allowing a student wear their own clothes can make them more excited to show off their school spirit.   Not only are uniforms dreary and boring to look at, it feels like it constricts students.  But having the freedom to wear your own clothes shows pride and a boisterous feeling around the school.

I don’t think uniforms show unity among students.  Sure now everyone looks the same, but that just shows that everyone is physically united.  I like that fact that having no uniforms shows individuality and freedom.  Having the freedom to express our selves can help show diversity and culture.  If we had to wear uniforms, there would be no culture, diversity and no expression.  We would loose our diversity and individualism.  Having all students wear the exact same thing can easily make everyone forgetful it would pretty hard to find someone in a school were every looks pretty much the same.  It would be very hard to standout if everyone looks exactly the same.

Uniforms are also a financial burden.  We already have to pay a lot for school, and now we would we have to purchase uniforms.  Some parents might not have enough to purchase the uniform and also we would have to buy more than one uniform since we would have to wear it daily.  Wearing it daily also means the constant washing of the uniform.  That would also waste a lot of time, having to wash it over and over again.  That also deteriorates the fabric of the uniform over time.

If SIS enforces uniforms, there would be many disapproving students and parents.  Uniforms don’t show any pride or unity among the students.

Prompt #19 If I could bring back one person from the dead, who would he or she be and what would I serve for dinner?

If I could bring any person back from the dead and have dinner with he or she; I would most definitely like to bring back my Lola (grandma).  She had passed away about two years ago and I really miss her a lot.  She lived in the Philippines and my family and I always visited her every year during Christmas and summer breaks.  She had always been sick because she had suffered a stroke when I was really young and it had enabled her to speak and move properly.  Because of that, she only stayed inside the house and wasn’t able to leave the house to got to other places like restaurants and the malls.

Because of her inability to communicate and because I live so far away and to only visit just a short amount of time, we were not very close.  Every time I visited her, I knew that she could never remember my name, I knew that she remembered me by just looking into her eyes and see that familiarity and happiness of see her one of her very few grandchildren.  Unlike my father’s side of my family, where there are tons of grandchildren and great grandchildren crawling all over the island, on my mother’s side, it is a very small family consisting of only three grandchildren.  Those grandchildren are my two brothers and I.  I think it must have been lonely for her to barely see her grandchildren.

That is why I would like to bring her back and have dinner with her.  I would then be able to ask her a lot of questions and get to know what she was like when she was young.  All the things that my mom has told me about her was that she was strict and orderly, but I think that there was more to her character, I want to know where my mom got her brains and surprising fighting skills and strength from, possibly from her?!?  I would also ask her for embarrassing stories about my mom.  When my mom was young, she was very naughty and seemed like she was very troublesome.  I would ask her what my grandpa was like, because he too passed away before I was born.
I would probably serve all of her favorite foods and everything that she couldn’t eat when she was sick.  Since she was sick, she only had a very limited choice, all of which she clearly had distaste for.  It would be amazing to have a chat and dinner with her!!
Another person I would like to bring back would be my older brother, who would either be a senior in high school or a freshman in college. It would be really nice if I could actually meet him.   I had always wanted an older brother.

If I could bring back a celebrity, I would most definitely bring back the legendary Freddie Mercury.

Prompt #18 playing computer games is a waste of time and should not be allowed. Do you agree or disagree?

I do not exactly agree nor disagree with the subject.  Playing computer games can be a very good thing and even a bad thing.

The good thing about computer games is that it is like a stress relief.  Sometimes, people, probably mainly students, use computer games or video games as a sort of stress relief. It takes their mind off of their troubles and stress in school and it’s a fun thing to do, you don’t have to get up and move, you just sit and use you hands and eyes.  Playing also can improve hand and eye coordination, gives you a better eye for spotting details and can even help socially. There are many people out there that also enjoy playing computer games.  Many people like to come together to like other people’s house and play together, and even in online gaming, you can meet other people who are also playing the game who live in different places.

The bad thing about computer games is that it might even become addicting.  Some people would rather play all day and not do anything, its mostly goes for students.  Many students are failing classes because of their addiction to playing computer games.  They might play all day or night and ignore their homework and studying.  It can also cause obesity and laziness, playing computer games does not make you do any physical work.  All you do is sit and look at a screen, there is not much physical movement used at all.  People might become lazy to move and just want to play their game so they might just eat junk food cause its fast and cheap to get.  Obtaining the games too, must be very costly.  Buying a video game could cost from $20 to $70, I think that’s pretty expensive.  It can also be bad socially too, while it may help socially it can also ruin social skills, if you become addicted.  You might not want to go out with friends or might loose interaction skills since playing alone all the time can make you forget how to interact in the real world sometimes.  It can also destroy eyesight.  If you play video games for an extremely long time with no rest, this could seriously damage your eyes, resulting in getting glasses.

Computer games can be a good thing and also a bad thing.  Although it may seem that there are more consequences playing games, if handled correctly like, managing the time spent on playing games and life, it could be a good thing and can help you.

Prompt #17 Define Beauty

Define Beauty.
I personally think there is no exact definition of beauty.  Everyone has their own preference and views on what is beautiful for them.  Everyone has different views and beliefs on what beauty is whether it be from the way someone or something moves, walks, acts, looks etc.  There may be no definite definition of beauty but there are two types of beauty.  Inner and outer beauty.

Inner beauty is pretty much defined as beauty on the inside.  Beauty on the inside is like another depiction of one’s personality.  Inner beauty is something that people cannot see physically, it is like someone’s nature, psyche, charisma, the way the act or talk.  People who are like loving, nice, selfless, etc. are said to have inner beauty.  For inner beauty, it is what is on the inside that counts, not the outside.  I personally think inner beauty is the most beautiful and is my definition of beauty.

Outer beauty can be defined as beauty on the outside.  Beauty on the outside is anything that someone can see physically.  For outer beauty, it can be found in someone or even something.  It doesn’t have to be a living thing because it can just be anything that a person finds beautiful, like the sunset, sunsets are absolutely gorgeous, a boat, a painting, etc.  For a person, it can be they way they are shaped, apple, hourglass, pear, the color of their hair, the style of hair, height, weight, nose, ears and eyes.  In many places or countries around the world, there are a lot of meanings for beauty, mainly for outer beauty.  Some countries might have a certain culture that already has some kind of idea or view on what beauty for them is.  Beauty can be apart of a country’s culture or even in schools.  Students in school also have some kind definition of beauty, like the style of one’s clothes, shoes, hair, makeup etc.

There is no exact or definite definition of beauty.  Everyone is beautiful in his or her own way.  No one should be called ugly because everyone has beauty in them.  “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” I think this statement is close to depicting what beauty is.

Prompt #16 If I were to be stranded, what three things I would take?

If I were to be stranded on an island, what three things would I take…?

The first thing that pops up into my mind is to bring Hatsuko.  I think if I were to be stranded alone, I would probably die in a very short amount of time.  I’m kind of clumsy and I always find trouble.  I would also be lonely, if Hatsy was there with me, then I could have someone to play with and work with.  She and I work pretty well together; teamwork is the dream work. Being stranded with Hatsy would be filled with very interesting.  We are both crazy and I think the days there would be full of weird surprises.  We are both extremely curious and have the same childish imagination so we would also be like adventurers and explore the island.  If I had to be alone on a stranded island, I would get seriously lonely.  I would probably find a coconut, paint its face maybe with blood and then name it Wilson, like the volleyball in the movie Cast away (with Tom Hanks!).

The second thing I would bring would be a machete.  At first I contemplated on bringing a sword, but that’s kinda weird.  So I thought of a machete.  I want to bring a machete because in many foresty island exploring adventure scenes the people use machetes.  Also, in Saipan people use machetes for lots of things like opening coconuts, cutting trees, bushes many things!  Having some sort of knife object is very important for survival because there are some things that you can’t just open with our bare hands.  We can use it to clear tall grass to create pathways, use it to cut marks in trees so we can mark where we are going, and even sharpen branches and sticks so we can make spears or arrows.

The last thing I would bring would be a lifestraw.  A lifestraw is a portable water filter that you can use as a straw.  You can drink from any water source because the filtering system inside the straw will filter the water making it clean so we can drink without getting sick.  The straw filters any kind of water so we can safely drink it.  Without it, we would be drinking water that might have dangerous bacteria.  Without water, we would become dehydrated and can die of thirst.  Drinking seawater is also dangerous; seawater has a lot of salt and minerals, much more and than what our body actually needs and also additional stuff that might be dangerous to our bodies.  Seawater also contains salt, having too much salt can kill our kidneys and also drinking seawater will make us even more dehydrated, have impairment of judgment.  So having the lifestraw will allow us to drink any kind of water safely without the fear of endangering our bodies.

And these are the things that I would bring if I were to be stranded in an island. :D
